Leadership Styles
Leadership
Styles:
1. Coercive style is most effective in times of a crisis; but people feel devalued
and also negatively impact the work culture.
2.
Authoritative style is firm but fair. This style mobilize the team towards a
common goal; effective and can have a positive impact.
3. Affiliate leader creates sense of belonging; “people come first”; strengthen
connection to form an emotional bond; creates positive work culture; but let’s
mediocrity seep in; no scope for constructive criticism.
4.
Democratic leader believes in nurturing consensus through participation; leader
is open to fresh ideas and inputs; but not effective if the team is a novice
and not well informed.
5.
Coaching leader uses ‘try this’ model to maximize worker’s effectiveness; does
not work if the team is unwilling to learn.
6.
Pace setting style to be used sparingly; squelches creativity and has a
dictatorial approach; this leader expects excellence and self – direction;
effective if the team is skilled but may hamper the company work culture.
